2017 UNSW BFA Field Trip to Japan produced a group collaborative work from 20 students in Futakawa. The work had two purposes, 1. to reflect on Japanese culture and valuable aspects of our experience hiking 60 km along the Kumano Kodo trail, 2. to regenerate purpose and interest in the defunct primary school building. We created a set of window panels that showed aspects of the trail and invited the community village to participate in a two-day art festival, showcasing our work and the work of solo-artists, with local food cateriing and local bands performing. The window is backlit at night, becoming a giant light-box. So popular, the mayor declared it a permanent work to remain light every day.
